Feast in the East: the Galvin Green Man and the Fitch of Bacon in Essex

The Best of England Pub Guide 2019 is out and Essex is represented twice. Among the regional selection of 200 rural boozers (some sliding across into restaurant with rooms territory), two good looking country pubs in Essex stood out to the lucky team tasked with sampling food and drink from around the country.

Reviewed on this very website, not once but twice, the Michelin-starred Galvin brothers’ Galvin Green Man in Great Waltham, which opened in 2017, is featured. Blending rustic beams and open fires with contemporary, design-led features, British food is celebrated in one of the oldest pubs in Essex. Tim Allen's Flitch of Bacon in Dunmow also shines with its combination of local and European ingredients and became the only Michelin starred restaurant in Essex last year with the launch of the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2019
