Firstsite, Colchester

Colchester’s £25million arts centre Firstsite was christened the Golden Banana by the Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly behind the curvilinear structure clad in copper aluminium panels, the building has received criticism for not engaging with the town enough. I think it suits Essex. It’s cultural yet that shiny exterior could easily nod to the glitzy and glam side the county is known for. And the roster of exhibitions and events spanning the entire year reveals multi-cultural and firmly local initiatives to encompass all of us.
